| I have read (and bought) the "Sophie" books, which are fun to read, fast paced, and featuring believable kids. Ms. Rue follows the kids from upper elementary to middle school, showing protagonists and antagonists realistically (warts and all.) There are groups of girls with godly and ungodly character traits, and there are boys with ungodly and godly character traits. Neither sex is "bashed"-at least, not that I've seen in any of the books I've read (including this one.) The books are heart-warming, and Sophie's concern is more with her own character than anyone else's. In fact, part of their "code" deals specifically with NOT bad-mouthing anyone else, which is refreshing in today's books for kids. Anyway, these books are awesome. The boys are not outcasts (they meet five really nice ones that become friends with), it's just that there's some stuff that is more suited to girls in these books.
In this one, Sophie's struggling with all kinds of trouble that the school dance causes. Kitty's getting boy-crazy, Maggie's not eating and Willoughby- a Corn Pop- is always hanging around.
Through it all, Sophie learns that she must learn how to sacficice things for God.

| Back in September, the sixth grade class at Great Marsh Elementary decided to have a dance for a graduation party. Now the dance is turning the Corn Flakes, Wheaties, and Corn Pops into enemies, causing friendships to break and pranks to run rampant. Now every girl is out to get a date to the dance, and the guys are eating it up. Sophie's own Corn Flakes have their own problem on their hands when Maggie develops an eating disorder and Kitty discovers boys. But Sophie's problems escalate when newly popular Jimmy Wythe asks her to go to the dance. Now, suddenly she's got to find a way to fix Maggie's dateless problem, find a dress that she likes, and find time for God. But a conversation about the dance to her parents brings them to the conclusion that there should be no dance, and Sophie's parents cause most of her friends to turn against her. Will there be a dance for the sixth graders at Great Marsh Elementary? And can Sophie preserve the sanity of her beloved Corn Flakes? Not a bad book, not one of the strongest in the series.
