| James is just as candid with his writing as he is in speaking. He is a conversational writer that gets to the point and his points are always well poised. If you are looking for biblical instruction that is easily applied to your life, this is a read for you. In a way, the book should be titled, "I Really Want to Repent...So, Help Me God" because the focus of the book *is* about change through true repentance.
Having said that, it was a difficult (in a good way) book for me to read as it forced me to face my sins and make a decision as to whether I would trust God or if I would continue to do things my way.
If you're struggling with depression or something similar, it may not necessarily be the book to read because it's possible to be depressed and not fully understand the source of the depression. I think in this case, praying to God and asking Him to reveal the source; there are so many different factors that cause depression.
While it is a challenge, I highly recommend this book for anyone who is seriously desiring to change ... that is repent and turn away for their sins. | | | | You Will Change Jul 16, 2005 |

| Forget secular self help books, this book gives you a structured biblical approach to change that really works, I bought the Tape eries from his web site for over $50 because I loved the book so much. | As a born-again Christian of over twenty years who is struggling with emotional issues, I found this book useless and stopped reading after the first couple of chapters. I have been struggling with the author's recommended methods of change for over twenty years and they have not allowed me to overcome my covert depression tendencies. To so cavalierly disregard other methods of help as he does in Chapter 1 does nothing to further along the process of helping those truly in need. What he is doing is telling a drowning person to swim harder, rather than throwing them a life preserver. I found the advice similar to that of a misguided individual who told a friend that their child died of cancer because they did not pray hard enough. Yes, I believe in God and Jesus Christ as my savior. However, I do not believe an individual unskilled in alternative therapies, as the author appears to be, should disregard meaningful help that can be used in addition to a solid belief in God and His tender mercies. Any one struggling with covert depression tendencies or trying to make sense of emotional distress will find the author's suggestions simplistic and a retread of what can be heard from the pulpit on Sunday. | | | Write your own review about I Really Want To Change...So Help Me God
