This book needs to come with a warning: Page Turner!
While being a very quick read this book is very good for a few different types of reader.
1) New Powerlifters of any age... Many of the topics Devan discusses are the same thing I've found myself saying over and over to newer lifters than myself about the sport. Some of these include the lifter mentality including dedication, drive, lifting/competing for yourself for your own reasons, getting over yourself, cheering on fellow lifters, helping out, doing your best, the bigger picture, etc. I also like the woman's perspective of powerlifting because there isn't a lot written by or about women in powerlifting.
2) Tweens coming of age and letting them know: You're "normal"...
3) The spiritual growth and mental focus of being involved in the sport.
The other aspect I liked was how she VERY diplomatically approached the subject of living and growing up in small town America (the same town where I also grew up) and the challenges she faced (including an Athletic Director that was not exactly "encouraging" of her success in powerlifting or any girls with lifting ability for that matter)..
